GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. One Colorado state representative is using a trip home to help make changes in Washington.

Congressman Scott Tipton focused on the challenges Grand Valley businesses face for his first time back to the area this year.

He met with owners and employees at Lewis Engineering and Wagner Equipment Friday.

They discussed how federal business regulations and the Affordable Care Act are taking their toll on small businesses.

"Go back and tell real life stories," said Rep. Tipton, of his goal for the trip. "How real families, real small businesses are being impacted by what's coming out of Washington D.C."

Tipton is co-sponsoring the REINS Act to help small businesses. It would give Congress rule-making authority if any business regulation from the executive branch has a $50 million effect nationwide.
