DENVER (AP) Colorado prison officials have been focusing on getting parolees out of prison and on the streets in an effort to control its prison population.
According to documents obtained by the Denver Post, the shift has been plagued by inadequate training and a lack of resources. The newspaper reports police and parole officers questioned the new focus, fearing it put the public at risk.
Greeley police Chief Jerry Garner complained to corrections officials two years ago that his community faced a surge of dangerous parolees on the street.
