Reported abduction attempt was a false alarm

DENVER (AP) -- Authorities say a man accused of trying to snatch a 13-year-old boy in Golden has turned himself in, and no abduction charges are pending.

Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department tells us that in Denver an 18-year-old man went to police and told them he approached the boy Saturday evening to get information on an ex-girlfriend who lived down the street. Techmeyer says the man was hoping the boy would go to the door of his ex-girlfriend to try to get her attention.

The vehicle description was similar to one given in two earlier attempted abductions in September in Arvada, but the man involved in Saturday's false alarm is not a suspect.

Techmeyer says the man just made a "really bad choice" at the time.
