GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The government shutdown is over and Western Slope residents have mixed reactions. For William Ethan Finch, it's a sigh of relief.

"I'm glad they got it done and over with," said Finch.

On the other side of the coin, resident Bob Franco said the debt deal isn't a decision he wanted to see.

"It's bad, we should not be funding any kind of stuff and Washington needs to get its stuff together," said Franco.

Despite an agreement looming over the government earlier today, dozens took to the Monument to rally in protest of the park closure.

"We're here to reclaim The Monument for the people of Colorado," said Gregory Green, a Monument protester.

Some protesters weren't afraid of the consequences they may face for breaking through the barricades.

"I think most of us are prepared to go to jail, be issued tickets," said protester Linda Bestland.

The protesters broke through the barricades at The Colorado National Monument today as House Republicans broke down a deal with Democrats. While residents like Franco feel the end of the shutdown is a loss for taxpayers, Finch feels it's a positive step for Veterans like his grandfather who receive benefit checks.

"The more the government is shutdown, the more Washington is shutdown, the more the taxpayers win," said Franco.

"He's gotta pay his bills and make sure everything is hunky-dory," said Finch.
