West Star Aviation VP running for city council

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A local businessman is already announcing his candidacy for the Grand Junction City Council elections coming up in April.

Rick Brainard, vice president of business development with West Star Aviation, started gathering petition signatures for the at-large seat on the Grand Junction City Council. It's a spot currently held by Mayor, Bill Pitts.

"I've lived in big cities my entire life," said Brainard. "In a big city you feel like you can't make a difference, and in Grand Junction I feel like I can. So I decided why stay on the sideline? Why not get involved and try to make the city a better place?"

In 2010, Brainard was named CMU's Entrepreneur of the Year. He currently serves as a board member of the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce and the Community Hospital Foundation.
