NASCAR driver Kyle Petty rides for charity

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Tuesday morning, 175 motorcycle riders roared into Grand Junction. The riders are led by former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker.

The group is called the Charity Riders. They are on a mission to raise funds for Victory Junction and other children's charities. Victory Junction is a camp for terminally and chronically ill children.

"I think the thing that I always take away from this is that these people give up almost a week and a half of their lives, and they ride motorcycles, and they have a good time-- don't get me wrong-- but that's time a lot of people can write checks, but it takes special people to give time. When somebody gives their time, that's a big deal, and these people are giving time," says Kyle Petty.

The Charity Ride Across America has raised millions of dollars over the last 19 years for kids to attend the camp for free. The camp is located in Randleman, North Carolina. The ride concludes in Tempe Arizona. Altogether the riders will cover 2,100 miles.
