RIFLE, Colo. The city of Rifle is warning residents about a scam that's hit the area involving a mailing notice.

The letters were sent out by American Water Resources of Colorado soliciting homeowners to sign up for a water line protection program.

They claim it can protect residents from the expense of service line repairs.

The city of Rifle says they're not affiliated with this organization in any way, and is unable to respond to any questions about the mailings.

If you'd like to contact the company directly with any questions regarding the letters or the program, you can call (856) 359-2794 or visit www.awrusa.com/info.
