GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Hilltop's Health Access was filled with people seeking healthcare coverage to the point where there was only standing room available. Some even waited in their cars to get a chance to square away their insurance before the end of the day.
Many had a wait time of more than one hour to sit down with an insurance broker to go through his health care options and there's more than 300 to choose from.
If you didn't at least make an account on the insurance website you will be fined 1% of your income on your 2014 taxes, but that number is expected to go up each year. If you don't have insurance next year you'll be fined 2% and 2.5% in 2016.
Many people are trying to avoid the penalty. Hilltop's Health Access has helped 233 people sign up for insurance in just the last week. That's about the same amount of people they worked with in the whole month of February.
"We do know it can be confusing and if there's any questions come on down and we'd be happy to try to assist," Rhonda Lofing, Hilltop's Health Access.
As long as you had an account by Monday at midnight, you won't be fined, but there's no word yet on how long that extension will last.
If you missed the deadline or chose to not enroll and face the fine the next time you can begin open enrollment is November 15th.
