GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Senator Mark Udall made a stop in Grand Junction today to decide the fate of Colorado National Monument.
Business leaders from all over Mesa County joined the Senator during his stop today.
Community members voiced their opinions whether or not the Colorado National Monument should become a national park.
Senator Udall says the transition would bring the area more recognition and boost tourism in the Valley, leading to more job growth.
"The studies show that by converting the Monument into a national park, you would attract a lot of additional international visitors. And in a community where you have eight and a half percent unemployment or higher, anything we can do to create jobs is my priority and I think it's the business' priority," said Senator Udall.
Overall, the meeting consisted of those for the transition, with the hopes of large companies locating here.
The national park could potentially add 10% to the number of tourists at its peak.
