Driver charged with DUI, vehicular homicide in Hwy 50 accident

WHITEWATER, Colo. (KKCO) Tonie Rosales, 29, of Palisade, has been charged with vehicular homicide while driving under the influence, driving under the influence of drugs, careless driving causing death, and failure to drive in a single lane.

Colorado State Patrol says the cyclist hit by her car on Highway 50 around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday has died of his injuries.

The man, 25-year-old Eunjei Cho, died at a Grand Junction hospital after being airlifted from the scene. Colorado State Patrol says his next of kin has been notified, though they aren't sure yet where he's from.

Troopers say Cho was riding with another man, who was ahead of him, and not involved in the accident.

Colorado State Patrol also says Cho and the other man were riding in the bike lane when Rosales maneuvered into the shoulder and made contact with the back tire of his bike.

Two people are in a local hospital after separate bike accidents at different locations merely minutes apart at approximately 1:30 p.m.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department a truck entering 25 Road at the Batteries Plus parking lot struck a female bicyclist riding southbound on 25 Road in the southbound bike lane.

The female was transported to a local hospital. There is no update on her status at this time. As of now no one is being cited with tickets, however GJPD is still investigating.

Around the same time two bicyclists were riding eastbound in the bike lane on Highway 50. According to Colorado State Patrol officials, a car left the roadway and struck one of the bicyclists in the bike lane. The second bicyclists laid their bike down in order to stop.

The bicyclist hit by the car was transported to the hospital via the CareFlight helicopter with undisclosed injuries. The other bicyclist was treated on-scene.

Colorado State Patrol indicates that the driver of the car, a 29 year old female, has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. The incident is still under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

Due to the investigation one lane of eastbound Highway 50 is closed.
