DENVER (AP) -- Denver police say a man is in custody after multiple shots were fired during a standoff.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said police responded to a call about a suicidal man early Thursday, and the man opened fire. Jackson says police did not return fire and evacuated nearby buildings while gunfire continued.

The man surrendered after police threw chemical charges into the building.

Police say they do not know if the man was targeting any people or authorities. No one was injured in the incident.
