Sky high insurance rates

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. Rates of health insurance for people living in Garfield County have jumped 150%.

Because of it's geographic location, Garfield County's insurance rating is classified as a resort community, pushing premium prices sky high.

And many local residents are outraged, saying the cost of care is nowhere near that of a true resort town.

"We are not in that high-end resort area," says Pearson Insurance owner, George Pearson." "Even though we have nice hospitals and nice facilities we shouldn't be having to pay the same premiums as people who live in those areas."

Garfield County Attorney Frank Hutfless was directed by the commissioners to prepare a summary of legal costs if the county were to bring a suit against the Colorado Division of Insurance.

He tells us that will be completed in the next week or so and then they'll decide whether or not to follow through with the suit.
