LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- Crews have begun burning slash piles on many locations in the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forest.

Recent weather has allowed the burning to proceed and eliminated the threat of fires spreading.

Most of the forest has received moisture from recent snowstorms. Crews will continue burning the piles as long as weather permits in both Wyoming and Colorado. The Forest Service estimates that there are over 5,000 piles on the forests and the public should expect to see smoke from the burning.
