Smoke on the Mesa from a Controlled Burn

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) __ Areas with heavy brush and weeds on the Grand Mesa are being burned in a prescribed burn.

The burn, which is being watched and controlled by several area agencies. The fire is sending a large plume of smoke into the Grand Valley.

Officials with the BLM lit a little more than 650 acres on fire to control the natural fuels in the area near the Palisade water shed.

The burn is designed to improve environmental conditions.

The fire is about 7 miles west of the town of Palisade.
