GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) A local soup kitchen is raising money while also reminding people that some are not as fortunate as others.
The Grand Valley Catholic Outreach hosted its 18th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to support the soup kitchen.
"It lets them experience what some people experience every day, week after week because they're homeless," Sister Karen Bland said.
People picked out homemade bowls from local potters and filled them with their choice of more than 45 different soups, but organizers said it's what people took away from the event that matters.
"They take that bowl home to remind them that people go hungry in our community," Sister Bland said.
1000 people paid $25 each to attend the event.
All of the proceeds will help the soup kitchen continue to supply up to 300 people with lunch six days a week.
