ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) -- A rodeo cowboy from the South Dakota town of Rosebud died in a traffic accident in Colorado over the weekend.
Twenty-four-year-old bareback rider Austin Janis was killed early Sunday while returning to South Dakota, just hours after making his debut as a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association
cardholder at a rodeo in Texas.
The PRCA says the van that Janis and another cowboy were traveling in was struck head-on by a car on U.S. Route 385 near Wray, Colo. Janis was declared dead at the scene. The other cowboy
wasn't seriously hurt.
Janis was a member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. His funeral is scheduled Saturday at the Lower Brule Community Center.
