Spring hydrant flushing

Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- The annual Spring Hydrant Flushing event kicked off and took to the streets of Grand Junction.

The program was established after traces of Biofilm were found in the water system in 1993. Due to the instatement of this regular flushing program, no evidence of the harmless bacteria has been found since.

Some temporary effects of the flushing are low water pressure, large amounts of water flowing in the streets and gutters and water discoloration, which is caused from cast iron rust in older parts of town.

The program is expected to conclude in two weeks.
