Sprouts' Grocery store coming to Grand Junction

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Natural Grocers should be happy because a new store is sprouting up in Grand Junction.
Sprouts’ Grocery store is being constructed next to the Hobby Lobby in the Rim Rock Plaza.

Sprout is an indoor farmer’s market; their website says they offer healthy living, for less.

The company has stores in Denver under the name Sunflower Market. Sunflower Market announced earlier this month they’re merging with Sprouts.

The store is expected to be open this fall.

Having moved from Phoenix 5 years ago, we shopped in Sprouts or Mayflower stores once a week. Sprouts is a "step up" from Mayflower in my opinion. Like the difference between Costco and Sam's Club. We are looking forward to the opening! We enjoyed the quality of the natural beef and poultry. Flesh fruits and vegetable are outstanding and all at fair prices. I'm sure that the "Big" three in town are not looking forward to the competition!

Why would Natural Grocers be happy? Its competition kind of. Remember folks if you want all organic produce Sprouts is not all organic. Natural Grocers only carry natural products, no GMO, hormones, etc. Make sure you check it out. Next week Mike Gilliands trial is to begin. Did you know he stepped down as CEO of Sunflower after being charged in a sex related arrest in Arizonia. Now the company is merging with Sprouts. How come Hobby Lobby dosen't have a problem with them selling liqour? I won't pay a tax for their parking lot to shop there. Don't forget most stores will honor those coupons they have.

Sounds like you have an ax to grind w/this company. I am sure Sprouts are wanting to caring organic and non organic products to serve a more people. You seem to have done your homework and know much of the negative about Sprouts.... Are you an employee of the competitor?

Not excited about having to travel to Rimrock as I do little business there but I am excited about the farmers market approach. This is the only place I have lived where I have had to eat garbage food to try to sustain life. I have always had access until moving to GJ to 365 days of fresh quality organic everything. At affordable prices. Think the secret tax however is very cheesy. If they had an issue w/the parking lot they should have picked a different location to build the store.

I am glad to hear they are opening a new grocery. I like Sunflower much more than whole Foods. the prices are more reasonable. Can't wait for it to open. As for paying a bit towards the upkeep of the parking lot-- I would rather do that than drive thru some of the lots I have seen.

You can also look up your local grocery store or online website Printapons and find a list of the best deals, and the sites will match sale items with coupons.

Well I work by the mall and think this is a perfect idea. Why would anyone want to open a business on ghetto north avenue? maybe we should start by dealing with the current issue before we start placing more business' on that ghetto piece of road.

Geez, some of you people....let me tell you why they open stores in what you perceive to be bad areas and hopefully give you a bit of education as well. Remember this phrase: 'Poor people are poor for a reason.' It is mostly due to bad choices with money. If I sold cigs, cheap beer, and lotto in the Redlands how much would I sell? What about the heart of Clifton?

Why can't anyone remodel any of the empty storefronts on North Avenue or Clifton? Is it too much to ask to have a business near where the workers live? ALSO why can't the city tell them "NO" That shopping area already has more traffic than it was built to handle. Why owns the land and is making a profit from all the businesses being built upon it?

Are people really this ignorant? Money and growth are funneled to areas owned by the 'in crowd'. All local government's friends and families buy the land dirt cheap, then they direct growth to that area. This has been going on for all of history.

Although I completely agree with you, it's all about traffic counts. Businesses put up shop where the majority of people already visit or drive by. Location, location, location. Frankly North Ave or Clifton is undesirable to businesses.

Yeah, it's almost as if the city WANTS profitable businesses to locate themselves in the areas where people go to purchase goods and services. Why don't the just force all new businesses to open on North Avenue right between the "adult" store and the discount cigarette place?

Ha, I was just thinking the same thing! Has anyone watched the news lately? The crime on North and in Clifton makes it such a desirable area to start a FAMILY business (not). I think people who don't drive are the ones complaining. It takes 10 to 20 minutes to get around this town, no biggie (unless you are walking).

Sonic also charges the secret tax. I'm sure this hippy store will too. Just what we need, more tofu steaks. They can buy their heath food and give the change to the bums in the driveway.

It is,, Hobby Lobby charges a tax/fee based upon the amount of purchase to upkeep the parking lot and outside grounds. I will not shop there, I went in there once, saw a lamp i liked, it was 168.00$. Found the identical lamp at Lowes for 69.00. I will never shop at HLobby EVER.
