Many in the community are searching for ways to help those less fortunate around the holidays. A group of local high school students joined forces to create a free holiday shop in hopes of brightening the holidays for area families in need.
"Well we just wanted a way to give back to our community so we decided to do a donation drive," said Central High senior Gabrielle McCombs.
The students are part of the Central High School Service Learning group.
"Everything is completely free we just set out, and then no questions asked they just come in and get what ever they need," said McCombs.
The teens started collecting household items, toys and clothing last month, and Kara Riddle said her efforts were more than worth it.
"At the end everyone cried because we just felt so good that we had helped out and we are really hoping we have the same effect," said Riddle.
The shop opened at 11 in the morning Saturday and closed up at three.
Any left over items will be donated to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
