GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. As drivers hit the road for vacation this summer, law enforcement sends a reminder, it's your responsibility to keep yourself and those around you safe.
Authorities say summertime is when people start to drive faster and more recklessly; and with extra drivers on the roads, enforcement is being stepped up as well.
"We have the 100 days of heat campaign between memorial day and labor day," says Colorado State Patrol Trooper, Dan Chermok. "We see a big incresae of people on the roadways during then and we have a surge of people, particularly for DUI and crash enforcement."
Authorities also want to remind drivers that summer is construction season and speeding through a construction zone could cost you upwards of $600.
If you're traveling across the state, you can get real-time road condition updates by dialing 511 from anywhere within Colorado.
