DENVER, Colo. (KKCO) Synthetic marijuana allows the user to potentially fool drug tests, but it may be putting them at risk at the same time.

The University of Colorado's ER department in Denver reports taking up to 30 patients this week alone who have symptoms related to using synthetic marijuana. Other metro area hospitals are seeing a rise in cases as well.

Even though the synthetic drug won't be detected in a drug test, the dangerous chemicals added in can cause users to become violent or agitated.

Officials say they do not yet know where they're getting the synthetic marijuana.
