GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) School District 51 has some talented artists. Wednesday evening some of them were recognized for their work that was submitted for the 6th annual calendar design contest.

The contest is sponsored by the Bank of Colorado and features student's art work from kindergarten through 12th grade.

All together there was close to 600 entries. Students say art education is an important part of their curriculum.

"I'm in art right now and we learn a lot about different art terms and things that if you wanted to be, wanted to do art in real life you would need to know," says Alexandra Nicoletti, 9th grade finalist.

The top three calendar designs in each grade level had their art displayed in the Bank's lobby where the community voted for their favorites

The first place winners receive $300 which is put into a savings account, second place winners receive $200 and third place winners each receive $100.

The top vote-getters for each grade will have their design printed in the calendar.

The calendar will be available in December for Bank of Colorado customers. A number of them will be sent to the school district and distributed among the schools.
