Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - Teachers both past and present were honored Wednesday afternoon at Fruita Middle School. In recognition of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the school thanked the teachers and staff for all their hard work.

Both current teachers and teachers who have retired came back for the celebration. They were given a historic piece of the building: part of the original 1936 gym floor that had been turned in to a pen holder with a plaque on it that read, "Pride of the Past and Future." The old gym floor was replaced last year.

The Fruita Middle School building was built in 1936 and is the oldest space that is still in use by District 51 students.
