Keeping an eye on your kids and technology

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Raising a teen in today’s era of smartphones and easy internet access isn't easy. However, there is hope that author Elizabeth Clark offers parents through her ideas on how to be more engaged with teens in her new book, "Parenting Plugged-in Teens: Becoming Their GPS in a Cyber-Sexual World".

On Tuesday night, she spoke to both parents and teens at the KAFM radio room.

She says staying on top of your child's internet access is key.

"The world is a lot different than when we were young. It just seems temptations are everywhere, and I think that the kids can come to a lot of harm because they don't have the maturity to filter out and make judgment calls," says Ron Slade, parent of two teens.

Clark says it's a good idea to have access to your kids' passwords and their internet history. Nothing should remain hidden.Talk to your kids often and focus on being a positive influence in their lives.
