TELLURIDE, Colo (AP) Voters in the mountain resort town of Telluride decided against a new tax on sugary drinks Tuesday.
The penny-an-ounce tax would have been the state's first special tax on sugary drinks including soda. It was estimated to raise some $400,000 next fiscal year for the town.
Tax supporters pitched the soda fee as an anti-obesity measure.
It would have been the state's first special tax on sugary drinks, though soda recently lost its sales-tax-exempt status statewide.
