DENVER (AP) -- A shootout with deputies in Texas may be linked to the killing of Colorado's state prisons chief.
Texas authorities are checking whether the shooter's black Cadillac with Colorado plates is the same car spotted near the home of Tom Clements, who was shot and killed when he answered the door Tuesday night.
Montague County Sheriff Paul Cunningham said a deputy pulled the car over Thursday, though the reason wasn't clear. The car's driver opened fire, then sped off.
The driver crashed in neighboring Wise County and opened fire as Wise County deputies and Texas troopers approached. The authorities returned fire and the suspect was shot and is at a hospital. No one else was injured.
Montague County is about 100 miles northwest of Dallas.
