GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The fate of Douglas Thames will be put in the hands of a jury.
On Thursday, a trial was set for Thames who is being charged in the rape and murder of Jacie Taylor back in 1994.
Thames was present for Thursday morning's preliminary hearing. The prosecution brought two witnesses to the stand, including an investigator who worked on the case in 1994 and the lead investigator in the re-opening of the case in 2011.
Thames was named as the suspect in the murder and rape after the man who spent nearly two decades behind bars, Robert Dewey, was cleared through DNA evidence.
Thames waived his right to a speedy trial
The five-week trial will begin in February of next year.
