Turkey Trot run to benefit firefighters

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Before gobbling up your Thanksgiving dinner, the Grand Junction Fire Department wants you to put on your running shoes for the Sixth Annual 5k Turkey Trot.

Over 800 people have already registered for the event, which means the race is on pace to have more than the 1,300 runners that participated in last year's run.

Pre-registration online for the run is already closed, but you can register for the run at SOAR Physical Therapy.

"We're really proud of this event. It caters to everybody. We really encourage a family atmosphere; that’s kind of what we're striving for, and this course is also set up as an official 5k event for people that care about their running times." said Patrick Dibsie, a firefighter and paramedic.

The 5k run is a benefit for injured and sick firefighters. Some of the money raised will also go towards Toys for Tots. This year a pancake cookout will be held after the event.

It all starts Thursday, Nov. 22 at 9 a.m. in the Connected Lakes State Park.
