GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The story behind the popular thriller, "The Purge," is being used to fuel frightening hoaxes nationally.

"The Purge" and its recent sequel, "The Purge: Anarchy," are fictional films about one night each year that allows people to do whatever they want without lawful consequences, including committing murder.

There are no actual nights without laws, but fake pictures are fooling some into thinking there could be.

The pictures list American cities along with dates and times of a purge.

Colorado Front Range cities have made one list and even though it is a hoax, law enforcement is reminding people they will uphold laws at all times.
