GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Tuesday night the Grand Junction Airport Authority Board voted to terminate Airport Director Rex Tippetts.
Tippetts was recently placed on paid administrative leave when the board decided to conduct their own internal investigation amid an FBI probe into the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
The surprise action was brought to the table at tonight's meeting and the board voted on the immediate termination of tippets.
The majority of the board agreed to let Tippetts go.
One former airport business owner feels the decision was a step in the right direction.
"A lot of smoke coming from this and it took a while for the fire to catch on, but it looks like people are absolutely totally dedicated to make changes. Which is going to turn this back to a community airport the way it belongs," said Grand Junction resident Bob Erbisch.
There wasn't an update on the internal investigation being conducted by the Airport Authority Board.
Chairman Denny Granum says there hasn't been enough information collected to release any to the public or the board. He says the decision to release Tippetts has nothing to do with the FBI investigation or the internal board case.
The Board’s next meeting is January 2nd, when they hope to have an update on the investigation.
