GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Not every story from 2013 could make our list, so here are a few of the stories that just missed the cut:

-- Three officer involved shootings in Fruita, I-70 near Utah, and Grand Junction. Although that's high for our rural communy, officers believe crime comes in waves and this is not a trend that will last.

-- Three plane crashes this fall claimed numerous lives, including Dana Brewer of Clifton, William Kennon of Collbran, and Jim Platz of Fruita.

-- Glacier Ice Arena held its grand re-opening in November.

-- Applications for unemployment benefits fell to pre-recession numbers in October. Experts say fewer applications are usually followed by more job gains.

-- The deaths of Greg Ausenmacher, Jean Taylor, and Harry Butler shocked and saddened our community. They will be forever loved and missed.

-- The demolition of historic White Hall began in August. Neighbors and passerby's alike reacted with mixed emotions, and construction crews had to be extra careful with the demolition due to the discovery of asbestos.

-- The impending trial that has captivated our attention since 2012 continued, while Heather Jensen still awaits the opportunity to appear before a jury of her peers. Jensen, who faces two counts of criminally negligent homicide, is set to stand trial in January.
