"Toys for Tiny Soldiers" program seeking donations

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) Giving back to those who gave us so much: A simple act of kindness can mean the world to a local military family.

Some military families not only struggle financially, but also have to deal with the stress of a deployed loved one in harm's way overseas. Now you can make a difference in the life of a military child.

For the fourth year in a row, the United States Army National Guard is giving you an opportunity to help military families who can't buy gifts for their kids. You can donate to the "Toys for Tiny Soldiers" program, and a small donation will go a very long way.

"We have drop off locations around town. We have Rib City and Ruby Canyon in Fruita. The big places in town are Cabela's and Sportsman’s Warehouse. Ed Bozarth [car dealership] is also doing [a deal]; if you like their Facebook page, they'll get a toy, or if you bring one to their dealership, they'll match a toy with it,” said National Guard family assistance specialist Danielle Hindson.

Toys will be donated to children of active duty, reserves, National Guard, veterans and survivor families, or families of American heroes who gave their lives for our freedom.

The deadline for donations is Dec. 15.

Just before Christmas, military parents will be able to pick out gifts to give their kids from the collection of donated toys.

Last year, the program provided toys to more than 80 local military children. For more information, contact Danielle Hindson at (720) 250-5571, (970) 640-7846, or danielle.hindson@us.army.mil.
