GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials removed 25 acres of Russian Olive and Tamarisk trees in the area.
They say the plants have little value to wildlife and have a negative impact on soil and on the other trees.
There are plans to remove trees in five other state areas in the fall. Officials said they will re-vegetate the areas with Willow and Cotton Wood trees and shrubs to reclaim the habitat that benefits wildlife.
The projects are being funded through grants and the price tag to remove the trees at Connected Lakes is around $20,000.
