Troopers indicted by grand jury make court appearance

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Two Colorado State Troopers indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of Jason Kemp made a court appearance Tuesday morning.

According to Judge Gurley’s clerk, Trooper Ivan Lawyer who’s accused of pulling the trigger, filed a motion to quash the indictment in which he faces six charges, including criminally negligent homicide.

The District Attorney’s Office asked for more time to review grand jury transcripts.

Corporal Kirk Firko is also facing charges in the case, including first-degree criminal trespass.

Firko and Lawyer will be back in court again March 8.
