Troopers indicted by grand jury make court appearance

Corporal Kirk Firko

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Two Colorado State Troopers indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of Jason Kemp made a court appearance Tuesday morning.

According to Judge Gurley’s clerk, Trooper Ivan Lawyer who’s accused of pulling the trigger, filed a motion to quash the indictment in which he faces six charges, including criminally negligent homicide.

The District Attorney’s Office asked for more time to review grand jury transcripts.

Corporal Kirk Firko is also facing charges in the case, including first-degree criminal trespass.

Firko and Lawyer will be back in court again March 8.

The trooper will never live a normal life again. They have to live knowing they killed an unarmed man, but given the situation they faced, they handled it as trained! I do think the trespassing charge should stand cause they didn't take the steps to get a warrant! As for being held above the law NO BODY IS ABOVE THE LAW!!!!

I believe that both Troopers should be tried to the fullest extent of the law just the same as we would if we had commented the same crime. They killed a man an unarmed man and that is murder to make it any less of a crime because they are Troopers is wrong. The fact they are free to go on with there life like normal, while in fact what they did changed the lives of so many. We can not excuse or lessen their action because they are State Troopers when in fact they should be held to a higher standard of the law, as officers of the law they are sworn to serve and protect. Their action were not of officers I would want serving or protecting me or the public. I do believe in our police and court system, I believe it is fare but if we let these State Troopers get away with murder what or how do we keep believing in our justice system. To quash the indictment made by the Grand Jury in which he faces six charges, including criminally negligent homicide would be wrong.
