Turning the pages during summer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. School is out, but Mesa County libraries don't think that's an excuse for anyone to stop reading this summer.

Local branches began their summer reading kickoff week Wednesday afternoon with special sign up events and activities.

It's the hope of library officials to get everyone in the family reading.

They put together reading programs for the children, teens, and adults to encourage reading all the way through summer break.

"The act of signing up for a program sort of gives you that self-imposed accountability to keep reading during the summer,” says Bob Kretschman of the Mesa County Library.

Grand Valley musician, Will Parker, paid a special visit to the central library to perform for all the kids and parents that came out for Wednesday’s sign up event.

There will be summer program reading events all throughout June and July, and if you can't make it to any of the sign up events this week, you can also register online.
