GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) --- There are two options for free and low cost health screenings in the Grand Valley, but both options are being offered on the same dates.
The 9 Health Fair, who continued the tradition of having a health fair in Grand Junction this past spring, decided last month they'd hold their 34th annual event at Intelletic College next spring. The Grand Valley Health Fair, who decided last year to end their affiliation with 9 Health, also announced today they'll be holding a health fair on the same dates at Two Rivers Convention Center.
In a statement to KKCO 11 News, 9 Health said, "The 2014 dates for the 9Health Fair at Intellitec College are March 21 and 22, 2014. These dates have been set since June 25, 2013. Traditionally, the dates for the spring health fairs are not announced to the public until the month directly preceding the blood draws associated with the health fair. However, we were notified today that the Grand Valley Health Fair has decided to switch from its planned fall dates to the springtime, in direct conflict with the 9Health Fair at Intellitec College. 9Health Fair is committed to serving the Grand Valley community as we have for 34 years, and we will continue to offer high quality, free and low cost health screenings in addition to unique services such as online registration and results reporting, 3-year cumulative results to all participants, and follow up calls within 24-72 hours to participants who have critical and alert levels."
The Grand Valley Health Fair Steering Committee announced Wednesday their decision to move the annual event to the same March dates and said, "Today over forty community partners are engaged in the planning process with the mission to improve access to free or low cost screening and to promote health focused awareness among our diverse population. The 2014 Grand Valley Health Fair will also be aligned with the recently adopted Community Health Improvement Plan, a comprehensive set of recommendations geared toward improving the health of Mesa County residents, particularly those at greater risk of poor health outcomes.
KKCO 11 News is a proud exclusive sponsor of the 9 Health Fair, and has also help support the Grand Valley Health Fair along with all other local media.
