Two Clifton brothers arrested in deadly stabbing

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in Clifton.

According to investigators, on March 1st, a man was found dead at 3195 F Road.

Brothers Jose Juan Ortiz, 30, and Julio Sesar Ortiz, 29, both of Clifton, have been arrested and charged with 1st degree murder.

They are being held without bond at the Mesa County Detention Center.

According to the Mesa County Coroner, Abel Roper, 31, was stabbed, and his body was discovered next to his 2004 grey Nissan Titan truck.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department is seeking information on the incident. If you saw Roper's truck on the night of February 29th, or the morning of March 1st, call Investigator Norcross at (970) 244-3252.

    to those of you claiming this was self defense I ask...how can any situation that starts with 4 slashed tires, therefore preventing the victim to flee, be considered anything but premeditated..they may not have intended to kill, but they did premeditate a crime that no doubt started with at least the intent to harm and ended with a mans life taken.

    For those of you who are calling these two murderers "superheroes" shame on you! This just makes me sick!! Hypothetically speaking, if it was a drug deal, does that mean its ok to brutally stab someone who has a problem?! And for those who are just being flat out racist, I'm white and I understand there is good and bad in every race. Those men are sitting in jail because they took another mans life. Plan and simple. Don't say it's self defense!! Two on one? I don't think so....

    And in other news, Another beaner was arrested today for murder. 2 murders in 2 days involving 3 beaners.

    If there was any doubt by the people investigating the murder about whether or not it was self defense, the murderers would not have been arrested until they were sure it wasn't. Also, $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 bonds means the judge saw enough evidence that it wasn't self defense either. They murdered him because they wanted to. Let justice be served. I wouldn't mind if they take the dearth penalty into consideration.

    Ok seriously, This is not high school, we are not a bunch of clicks that cant get along! I hope that we can all be adults and act like one! The matter of which started this situation isnt improtant! A Man is dead, MURDERED! If it was self defence than ( like stated earlier) why wasn't the police notified earlier? For the family of the two suspects, how would you feel if your family member was the one to have gotten murdered by two men? I'm sorry that their children are going to grow up without their fathers. This is all very sad!! But why may I ask is everyone out to slander?? reguardless of the events leading up to his death... YOU DONT KILL PEOPLE!!!

    For the people whos name is out of state yu dnt kno wut happened so dnt say abel was innioncent cuz no one will evrt kno...thers alwayb3 sides to a stori nd sadley we only kno one......i m someonr who is related to julio nd jose they would of never done anything lik thiz unless they were harmed too...they are both loving fatherz brothers boyfriends nd hardworkers....dnt judge if yu dnt kno thx nd i luv yu julio nd jose ill alwayz b here for yu

      They killed him and in no way was it because it was self defense. I actually look forward to that being proven wrong when they go to trial. I'm sorry that you're family has also suffered a loss. Their children will also grow up without fathers but the difference is, Abel did not choose to die, they chose to follow through with an action that any reasonable person would know would take them away from their family. This was not race related either, so people please stop throwing that out there. As a caucasion I will tell you that we too also committ crimes. Racism is ignorance.

      out of curiosity how do you explain slashed tires self defense? I am sure the truth will come out and I don't know any of the parties personally, however, I am not sure how a two on one altercation that started with slashed tires could be considered self defense in any way.

    Violent thoughts and statements lead to violent acts. Please! It is time to stop the violence! May God let everyone think of the children left behind before anyone makes any more irrational and angry comments. Let's clean it up and stay on subject, have respect for the tragic results of violence and have respect for the people left behind. Rest in Peace Abel, you are greatly missed.
