GRAND JUNCTION, CO (KKCO)_CDOT has closed two lanes on I-70 west of Fruita to allow crews to use a backhoe to remove debris from the river that was getting caught at the base of the bridge.

The right lanes of both eastbound and westbound I-70 will be closed until further notice, but the left-bound lanes are still getting through.

CDOT does not know if there will be a full closure of I-70 at this point but say they will reroute traffic over Highway 6 if they are forced to close the road over the next several days.

Rivers are expected to continue rising through much of the week before flows begin to decrease. Authorities are encouraging people to stay away from the banks of the river and if you live in flood prone areas to have an evacuation plan and kit.
