SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Authorities say a drilling rig caught fire near Roosevelt and forced the evacuation of a work crew.

The Uintah County Sheriff's Office says the blaze was reported shortly after midnight Monday.

Officials say the drill rig is shooting flames and black smoke into the air.

A roadblock has been set up and three nearby homes evacuated.

No injuries are being reported.

At least nine of the rig’s workers are based in Mesa and Garfield counties. One worker says a gas leak was reported as he was leaving Monday night.

He tells KKCO 11 News that the drill operators were told to continue going to work as normal until told otherwise.

Roosevelt is about 100 miles east of Salt Lake City.
