GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. Local disabled veterans are in need of help and the Grand Junction VA Medical Center is looking for new drivers to take these vets to their medical appointments.
Both the Grand Junction VA and the Montrose Outpatient Center are looking for new drivers for the Disable American Veterans Association.
VA Spokesperson Paul Sweeny said without these drivers many disabled vets would be forced to find their own transportation.
"The drivers know the routes, and for folks that have a lot appointments it's just more convenient because it's something that is familiar and they don't have to wait on a taxi,” said Sweeny.
Drivers have flexible schedules and to become a DAV driver all you have to do is complete a background check, have a clean driving record, and pass a physical.
Between the two facilities they are hoping to get 10 to 12 new volunteers, if you are interested in being a driver call the VA Medical Center’s Volunteer line at 970-244-1336 to find out more.
