GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says the number of flu cases in the region have picked up lately, putting an emphasis on how important it is to get your flu shot.

Veterans looking to get a flu shot can stop by the VA Medical Center for one. The VA Medical Center has more than 1,000 flu shots available.

"We want all veterans to get immunized. It's really important, it helps limit the spread of the bug and it's just important and we're happy to do it. It's free and it benefits all the people around them as well," says Rebecca Hewett, a nurse at the VA Medical Center.

Vets just need to provide proof of service to receive the shot at the VA Medical Center. Shots are also available at community-based outpatient clinics in Craig, Glenwood Springs, Montrose, and Moab.
