GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Grand Junction VA Medical Center is given top scores for reaching key quality measurements and continuing excellence. Officials say they were given the top performer award by the Joint Commission, which is the leading health care accreditor in the nation.
The award came after the hospital improved care for pneumonia and surgical patients. Some of those improvements are simple education efforts.
“We do a lot of patient education with our pneumonia patients about smoking and washing your hands especially with flu season around. Getting pneumonia does make things more complicated," says Stephany Seuell, patient safety manager at VA Medical Center.
Officials say they are very honored that they received the awards. The Medical Center is among just 1,100 others nationwide to be given the distinction.
