MESA, Colo. (KKCO) -- As the Mesa County Sheriff’s office tries to piece together the events that led to the shooting, one woman says she knows what happened.
Joanne Taylor works the Treasure House, a gift shop in Mesa. She says she talked with one of the victims of the shooting Wednesday night.
Joanne told 11 News, the female victim had been hiding out, and afraid to go home because of an abusive relationship, she said her friend was scared, and didn't feel safe.
"I've been very emotionally upset this morning because I knew the lady that was killed," says Taylor.
Joanne Taylor's phone rang this morning, the news on the other end, a friend had been shot and killed.
"I had seen her last night, she came into my store, and she said that she was going home for the first time since she had been hiding out," says Taylor.
Hiding out, Joanne says from the person she believes was also found dead this morning.
"I know this man was in jail and was released with restraining orders and an ankle monitor after he had already hurt her," says Taylor.
Joanne says the man was recently in jail, but just got out on bond. She says her friend told her that no one had seen the man in a few days, and so she thought it was safe to go to her house on 48 Road.
"She felt maybe he had left and went away," says Taylor.
Joanne now says she believes the man didn't go away; she thinks he was waiting for the victim, and fears the man killed her friend and then himself.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation, and hasn’t released how they believe this happened.
