Fruita, Colo. (KKCO) --- On the evening of June 27th, emergency crews responded to a fire on the roof of the Victory Life Church in Fruita.
The blaze was spotted by a passer-by who then called 9-1-1 and was extinguished quickly. Since then, crews and volunteers have been working tirelessly to clean up the area.
Investigators say that the fire began when a spotlight illuminating the church's cross fell. The downed light caused roofing material to catch fire which then spread to the cross.
Church officials say that while members were initially confused and upset, that quickly turned into a sense of solidarity that united them.
"The show of support from people and other pastors has been fantastic," said Senior Pastor Bob Cook. "We're doing fine!"
