GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A Mesa County mother admits to child abuse against her son, Elijah Wallace.
Ashleigh Wallace pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse and one count of attempting to influence a public servant, both class 4 felonies. She was in Mesa County court Monday afternoon for a bond hearing.
Her plea is part of an agreement with prosecutors that requires her to testify in the case against her boyfriend, Jesse Martinez.
The child abuse charge carries a sentence of two to eight years in prison, and the attempting to influence charge has a penalty of two to six years.
The time could be served consecutively, so Wallace faces a sentence of two to 14 years in prison at her next court appearance on June 5.
During the hearing, Wallace's father testified against her bond being lowered. Wallace's ex-husband Aaron also spoke against it, saying that Elijah hasn't gotten out of the hospital, so it's not fair for Ashleigh to get out of jail.
The judge decided to reduce her bond from $100,000 to $60,000.
Wallace and Martinez were taken into custody after Wallace brought in her son Elijah to the emergency room on Jan. 13 for a broken right arm and severe head trauma. That was two days after he received the injuries.
