Weather, crashes cause multiple I-70 closures

Snowy conditions prevail on I-70 at Vail Pass.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- A trip to or from the Front Range will take much longer than usual today.

The snowy weather has caused a number of crashes and icy conditions.

The westbound lane of I-70 near Silverthorne has been shut down at milemarker 205 due to multiple accidents and adverse weather, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation's website.

CDOT says all eastbound I-70 traffic is being held at Vail Pass due to accidents and blizzard conditions at Silverthorne. Truckers are instructed to stop at Dotsero.

The westbound lane form Floyd Hill to Silverthorne (milemarker 215-247) is closed as well.

One closure is planned, however: Traffic is slow at the Twin Tunnels due to scaling.
