Website allows users to give back while online shopping

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. If you're planning to get your holiday shopping done online, you can give to more than just those you're buying presents for this season.

The website Goodshop allows users to pick out their favorite charity and when they shop at any of 4,000 online stores, a portion of their spending will go to that organization.

"We go online and shop for our business all the time," said Josie Wright, who uses the site. "So yea we will definitely be using that option, so some money will go back to CASA."

CASA of Mesa County, which advocates for children in court who have suffered from abuse or neglect, is one of four charities from the Grand Valley you can choose to donate to on Goodshop.

"Anybody that deserves something during the holiday season would be these children," said Janet Rowland, executive director of CASA of Mesa County. "So this is a great opportunity to do something worthwhile for these children without really having to spend any additional money."

You can also donate to the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, Grand Junction High School Music Parents or KJOL 99.5.

Goodshop is powered through Goodsearch, which actually donates money to your chosen non-profit every time you use the search engine.

Goodshop and its sister sites have raised $10 million for charities to date.

"Just simply as they go about their normal online shopping, a portion of those dollars go to us, so it's kind of a win-win for everybody," Rowland said.
