What to ask your midwife

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Not all Western Slope women are looking to doctors for pregnancy care and delivery.

A push towards natural birth methods has many mothers-to-be seeking out midwives to help them during the birthing process.

An increasing amount of mothers-to-be are seeking out the services of midwives and doulas to guide them through their pregnancies.

They're highly trained professionals that are a viable alternative to the traditional doctor approach, but it's important to get all the facts to ensure that you and your baby are in good hands.

“It's my first baby, first midwife experience, and I knew that I'd want a midwife most likely after doing research with my husband, and it's been a great experience so far,” says expectant mother, Heidi Ihrke.

Midwives are required to have malpractice and liability insurance, but regardless of the law, it's one of the things that every mother-to-be should ask of her care provider.

Mothers may also want to ask their midwives what emergency medical equipment available if needed.
