SANFORD, Fl. (KKCO)-- A jury of six women has found George Zimmerman not guilty of second degree murder for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The verdict was reached after the jury deliberated for more than 16 hours over two days.
George Zimmerman looked stoic as the verdict was read with his family watching in the row behind him. Trayvon Martin's family was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read.
The jury had been given the option of deciding the lesser charge of manslaughter after a tense courtroom battle by the defense to keep it out.
“In the circuit court of the 18th Judicial Circuit in Seminole County Florida, State of Florida vs George Zimmerman verdict, we the jury find George Zimmerman not guilty,” said the foreperson of the jury reading the verdict.
